Fed Express storms into Semis

Roger Federer has set up a semi-final clash with third seed Novak Djokovic after beating James Blake in straight sets at Rod Laver Arena.

Federer extended his winning record against the 12th-seeded American to 8-0 with an entertaining 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win.

Not only did the victory secure Federer a place in a record 15th consecutive Grand Slam semi-final but it also ensured a 209th week as the No.1 player in the world.

The top ranking was under threat if Federer had failed to reach the semis and Spaniard Rafael Nadal went on to win the title.

Federer will meet Djokovic in the semis after the Serb thrashed fifth seed David Ferrer 6-0 6-3 7-5 in their quarter-final earlier on Wednesday, while Nadal will take on tournament surprise packet Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the other semi-final.

Blake pushed the Swiss maestro all the way, forcing Federer into unforced errors at some critical times.

There was an early exchange of breaks in the first set before Federer broke again in the 12th game to clinch it 7-5.

He won the second set in a tie-breaker before closing it out 6-4 on his first match point.
